International Workshop on Animal Welfare Research in Puducherry, India

An International Workshop on Animal Welfare Research, organised by the Commonwealth Veterinary Association (CVA) and the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER), Puducherry and supported by Open Philanthropy, was held on 19 and 20 August 2024 at RIVER, Puducherry, India.

A total of 45 participants and six invited speakers attended. Attendees included the faculty and post graduate students from RIVER, Veterinary Officers from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Welfare, Government of Puducherry, undergraduate students (B.Sc. Zoology) from Bharathidasan Government College for Women, and scientific experts from Humane Society International/India. Animal welfare experts from different states of India and United Kingdom shared their knowledge and provided insights into current animal welfare research.

The workshop was inaugurated on 19th August at RIVER by Dr. S. Abdul Rahman, Executive Director, CVA in the presence of Professor Cathy Dwyer, Director, Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education (JMICAWE), University of Edinburgh and it was presided by Dr.V. Sejian, Dean, RIVER.
